Summer 2017 Play for Children and Youth, ages 6-14
Auditions will be held at Ecole Au-Coeur-De-L’ile, 566 Linshart, Comox on May 13 and 14.
We will be limiting our cast numbers this year to 35 and so there is a possibility that your child may not be cast in the show. Please read all the information below, in particular, the rehearsal and show dates, as we expect our actors to commit fully and completely to the time period.
Children ages 6-8 arrive at 9:00 am on May 13 for a ½ hour group dance warmup to be followed by individual auditions. The individual auditions will be 5 minutes long each. Please sign up for those time slots when you arrive at 9:00. For the individual auditions please prepare a nursery rhyme to sing: Baa Baa Black Sheep, Hickory Dickory Dock, Mary Had a Little Lamb, or even Happy Birthday – just something short. The Director will then ask you a few questions which you will answer out loud with the goal of being able to hear your stage voice (the Director will explain what that means when you arrive). Come with water and a snack, and something to occupy yourself if you need to wait. Wear clothes and shoes that you can move freely in. There will not be an accompanist so be prepared to sing acapella. Bring a recent picture of yourself and a completed audition form which can be found on our website.
Children ages 9-14 arrive at 12:00 pm on May 13 for a group dance followed by individual auditions. The individual auditions will be 5 minutes long each and you can sign up for a time slot when you arrive at 12:00. For the individual auditions, please prepare a short song and a short monologue. You can choose any song or monologue of your choice but please make it short and a musical theatre song would be preferred. Come with water and a snack and something to occupy yourself if you need to wait. Wear clothes and shoes that you can move freely in. There will not be an accompanist so be prepared to sing acapella or you may bring in a karaoke track on your device (phone). If you also bring a plug we can play it over our computer speakers. Bring a recent picture of yourself and a completed audition form which can be found on our website.
Callbacks for the lead roles will happen on May 14 at 1:00 pm. You will be informed on the evening following the initial auditions whether you will be required for a callback.
The rehearsals will run from July 3 to July 21 at Mark Isfeld Secondary School in the theatre. The production will also be in the Isfeld theatre. The rehearsals will be from 9 am to 12 pm every weekday for the ensemble and 9 am to 2 pm for the leads. The format will be as follows: group warmup followed by group scenes followed by individual scenes. There will be downtime for your children, so please ensure that they have enough to eat and something to do quietly. We will not allow any tech devices during either the rehearsals or the shows, and accessing the internet is strictly forbidden. Please have that discussion with your children beforehand. There will always be someone at the rehearsals with a cell phone which can be used to make any necessary calls.
Our tech week will begin on July 24th and we will have 6 shows ending on Sunday July 30. During tech week and on the actual performance days, we might require your children to be at the theatre for large parts of the day, and it is possible that rehearsals will move from mornings to afternoons. This is unavoidable during this crucial time period and so please be aware that you might need to be very flexible during that one week. We will do our best to let you know the exact schedule the week before as we understand how busy everyone is.
