Featuring songs by Elvis Presley
Director: Alex Nicoll, Choreographers: Alex Nicoll and Courtney Hunchuk, Music Director: Sean Mooney
We are super excited to have the talented RYT alumni Alex Nicoll direct our fall show. Alex has been working as a professional actor around Western Canada for several years. He is a graduate of Capilano University’s musical theatre program, and recently worked on Nicholas Lloyd Webber’s world premier of The Little Prince in Calgary. Alex also was the assistant director / choreographer for Three Legged Dog’s premier production of Guys & Dolls.
We will be limiting our cast numbers this year to 30 and so there is a possibility that you may not be cast in the show. We are also opening the auditions up to adults as there are some older roles in this production. Please read all the information below, in particular the rehearsal and show dates, as we expect our actors to commit fully and completely to the time period.
Teresa Coates and Rosie Smith are your producers for this show and can be reached at Teresa@rainbowtheatre.com or Rosie@rainbowtheatre.com
Individual Auditions: on Friday May 26 from 6 pm – 9 pm and Saturday May 27 from 10 am – 12 pm. You can sign up for a time slot at the school on either Friday at 5:45 or Saturday at 9:45.
For the individual audition please prepare a song from that genre. Preferably an Elvis song (a list of the Elvis songs in the show is attached). Please don’t mimic Elvis but sing in your own voice. There will not be an accompanist so be prepared to sing acapella or you may bring in a karaoke track on your device (phone). If you also bring a plug we can play it over our computer speakers. Also, prepare a short monologue of your choice with two provisos: it must be from the last 100 years and it must be light/comedic. No dark, anguished monologues please as that is not the style of this production. Bring a recent picture of yourself and a completed audition form which can be found on our website.
Group Movement Call: Saturday May 27 from 1-3 pm. For everyone auditioning. Wear clothes and shoes that you can move freely in.
Callbacks: Will be either Saturday afternoon after 3 or Sunday morning at 10 but please be prepared for either time. If you have a callback you will be called after the group movement call.
The rehearsals will start the week of August 21. We will set our actual rehearsal times for the last two weeks of summer when we know who is cast and what everyone’s work schedule is. But we require that all actors be available for those two weeks in the summer. Once school resumes we will be rehearsing every Friday night from 7-9 and every Saturday from 10-5 and Sunday from 12-5. The entire cast will not be required for all of these rehearsals but should be prepared to attend every one they are called for. A schedule will be given out two weeks in advance of every rehearsal. The rehearsal venue is still to be determined.
Our tech week will begin on Oct 22nd and we will have 5 shows ending on October 29th. We will have 3 evening shows; Thursday, Friday, Saturday and 2 matinees; Saturday and Sunday. During tech week every actor must be available for the entire week.
