In 2010, Rainbow Youth Theatre is celebrating its 22nd year of Theatre Life! RYT is a well-respected performer in the local theatre scene and has established a strong tradition of providing opportunities for residents of the Comox Valley in a safe, fun environment for people of all ages to participate in community theatre. RYT’s mandate is to provide local youth and children with opportunities to participate in theatre arts. Our members learn self-confidence, self-awareness and explore learning opportunities in a friendly creative environment. We invite families and individuals, of all ages, to join RYT and experience the joy of live theatre.
RYT is a non-profit society and therefore relies on volunteers who are committed to working towards memorable experiences for our members. RYT offers numerous opportunities for its members in all areas of theatre including directing, producing, acting, singing, dancing, technical production, set design and construction, etc.
RYT Membership entitles families and individuals to audition for, and participate in all productions throughout the year. Membership Fees for Rainbow Youth Theatre are $40.00 for an Annual Family Membership. Annual RYT membership period runs from January 1 through December 31 of each year. Becoming a member of Rainbow Youth Theatre will allow you to audition for RYT productions. However, being a member does not guarantee a role in any single production as that is within the purview of each director.
Production Fees are weekly fees that are charged to each member taking part in one of RYT’s productions. These fees help to cover some of the basic costs of mounting theatrical productions (ie. Rehearsal space rental charges). Production Fees are are charged per “production week”. These production fees range from $15 to $25 per week depending on the scope of the production and other factors. There are family group rates as well. The length of our productions (including rehearsals and performances) may vary from 3 to 6 weeks, depending upon the nature of the production. These production fees are due at the beginning of the rehearsal period and should be paid to the producer.
Volunteer Commitment for RYT members participating in any show requires a number of hours be devoted towards that particular production. These volunteer hours are outside of the rehearsal and performance hours. Volunteer hours may be performed on a variety of tasks such as costuming, set construction, painting, props, promotion, etc. Approximately 5 hours of volunteer time 'per week - per member' is required. Family members of very young members are welcome to perform the required volunteer hours on their behalf. Other arrangements may be negotiated with the show producer if time commitments prohibit the member from performing these hours.

Annual General Meetings are held at the end of March every year and RYT welcomes all interested individuals and families to attend. Detailed information about the upcoming season’s productions is provided at our annual “Meet the Director” event in early spring of each year. Annual RYT membership fees are accepted at this event as well. Auditions for each of the upcoming season’s shows are announced on this website and advertised through the local Comox Valley arts community network.
You can download various Rainbow Membership Forms from this site to help accelerate the application process.
